Alistair has lived in St. Abbs
all his life, the son of a fisherman, he decided to follow his Father's career
choice and also took to the sea.
Fishing the North Sea with his own boat,
he gained vast knowledge of the tides, the coastal waters and
what lies under the waves.
Alastair is also a qualified
diver and for some years, he sailed with divers on board, helping them to explore the world famous marine reserve and the
large number of shipwrecks to be found off
the coast at St Abbs.
|
| He became Coxswain of the St.
Abbs Lifeboat, a post he held for many years and although now
retired, he is still the LOM (Lifeboat Operations Manager) at
St. Abbs. Alistair remains a keen fisherman and still keeps his boat
at St. Abbs for his own pleasure. So, if you're lucky, you
may get invited to go for a sail with him! |
| Born in Dunfermline, the
daughter of a civil engineer, Linda is
very well travelled and had lived in Gibraltar and Singapore
before the family returned to Scotland when her Mother became
the headmistress
of the village school at St. Abbs.
After training as a nurse,
Linda married Alistair and they made their home in the village, raising
three boys. Their eldest son, Paul, now operates the family's
seafaring business, 'Dive St Abbs' from the harbour.
'The Ebbcarrs Cafe', situated
in the harbour, was first established by Alistair and Linda after they
restored the old building which was formerly the smoke house.

|
The Cafe
is now leased by Janet and Jim Kearsley, who provide delicious
hot and cold snacks and drinks and of course the very fresh and local seafood is a
speciality!
However, Linda has not retired
yet but thoroughly enjoys her work as one of the Practice
Nurses at a Doctors Surgery in Berwick upon Tweed.

Linda and
Alistair share their
home with 'Millie' the Boxer and the cats 'Bumble' and
'Fudge'. |
