Thirlestane Castle
- At Lauder has its
origins in the 13th century.
It was rebuilt as the Maitland family
home in 1590 and as the seat of the Earls and Duke of
Lauderdale, the Castle has held a central role in the history of
Scotland.
Now famous for the Scottish
Championship Horse Trials, an equestrian weekend held in August each
year in the
Castle grounds.
A single charge will cover both the Horse Trials and
Castle admission. Just 31.2 miles from St.Abbs.

- Is set in beautiful
parkland and the house was designed by
William Adam and completed by his son, Robert.
The collection of paintings including
works by Van Dyck, Gainsborough, Ramsay, Aitken and Nasmyth.
The Italian-styled terraced garden looks over a beautifully wooded
lake to the Cheviot Hills. Just 14 miles from St.Abbs.
